I can offer a patination service for your existing bronze sculptures. If you have over cleaned a bronze or have stripped off the original patination it is possible that I can recreate this for you. You may just be bored with your bronze and wish to strip of the original patination and replace it with something more interesting or modern.
This stage in the production of a bronze starts with the cleaning off of all the dirt, any remaining shell, and the products of oxidation from the casting process. This can be acheived in a number of ways, but by far the quickest and most effective is sand blasting. I use a two stage process, firstly I use a coarse aluminium oxide grit which cleans the piece, but leaves a matt finish. I then follow this with glass beads, which is less aggressive, and polishes the bronze, giving it a golden sheen. It is then ready for patination.
Patination involves the colouring of the bronze with various chemical treatments, often to simulate the natural aging process of the bronze alloy. There are a huge variety of colours that can be applied as well as the traditional browns and greens. Different colours can also be applied to the same bronze to highlight different featured. Patinas can also be applied using various techniques in order to create different patterns on the surface.
